Mural comes from the word 'diarrhea', from
the Latin word that means the wall. Incontemporary terms, a
large mural is a painting made on wall (interior or exterior),
ceilings, or other flat surface. Root of the mural begins
long before the origin of moderncivilization, even suspected since 30,000
years BC. A number of prehistoric drawingson cave walls at Altamira, Spain, and Lascaux, France, which describes the
actions ofhunting, gathering, and religious activities, often referred
to as first-generation form ofmurals.
The mural began to develop into modern mural in the 1920's in Mexico with DiegoRivera pioneered, among others, Jose Clemente Orozco, and David Alfaro.
Mural 1970-1990 year began to show its existence is Jean-Michel Basquiat, graffitinyain the corners of the city and the station in New York, by writing SAMO as identity. This then inspired many other artists to work in public spaces. One of the artists whoinfluenced the later Keith Haring was a lot of work and is regarded as a mural artistduring his career (Sentoso, 2003).

Mural in Indonesia has been around
since the time of independence war. At that time, the

with mural art. But has now gone by the renovation. Yet alternative spaces like this
is quite important as a forum for the expression of young children. Consequently, a
growing number of murals appeared invarious public spaces in Malang. Some
people may think negatively, but we can not denythis when we are
in the middle of a complex culture and gave birth to the
new colors as an expression of art.
